June 2016

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

THIS IS THE DAY the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

As I write this message, it is a beautiful early June afternoon! The breeze is blowing, the fields are planted, with the corn and soy beans peeking their heads above ground, my silly cat is out and about playing, and Ron is working on the engine of our EZ-GO golf cart that we use for yard chores. It is indeed the DAY THE LORD HAS MADE!

Thanks to each of you (over 425) who attended the OH-IO-ES Reception on April 30. What a great time the WGP and I had as we CELEBRATED YOU!

Then, what a special day over 340 of us had at the 2016 CHARITIES EGG-STRAVAGANZA at our OES Home on June 4! WOW! We dressed casual, we played barnyard games such as "ring the milk bottle toss", "turkey egg toss", "ring a raccoon", "chicken toss", "pig in a trough toss", and had tractor and bunny races! With each game we were awarded "eggs", the eggs allowed us to "win" scoops of grain to fill the Red or Green silos. Nineteen folks enjoyed driving the Massey Harris 333 under the guidance of Ron Hardesty. Pictures were taken in front of red and green tractors and the red barn/country scene. Silent and live auctions were held. While the Worthy Grand Matron wore the "egg" (the loser) and the Worthy Grand Patron was the "chicken" (the winner), WE ALL WON. Total made for our OES Charities: $20509.20!

This is the breakdown as reported by our State Charities Committee:

Auctions: $ 9466.00

Silo Donations: $ 141.00

Tractor Rides: $ 31.00

Photos: $ 184.00

Memorials (bibs): $ 994.00

TOTAL: $10,814.00

Red vs Green coin war: $7737.92 (6 Districts not yet reported)

Bandana sales: $1050.00 (some still out)

Dinner Profit: $ 907.28

Thanks to Tracie and Todd Evans, Nancy Flautt, Bob and Ellen Gilley and all the Charities Directors for an outstanding job!

While the Inspection season is over, there are plenty of opportunities to continue to PARTICPATE in the next few months! There are Visitations and Receptions, Picnics, and our July bus trip!

Don't forget about the Ritual Competition at Grand Chapter! Your Chapter Secretary has the information for participating! This is your opportunity to demonstrate your love of our Ritual work!

Continue to get your OH-IO-ES card "punched". We are eager to greet our award participants at Grand Chapter. "Punches" will be given up to Grand Chapter!

The members of the Speakers Bureau are available to you. They do great programs, both fun and serious. Need some special entertainment for an event? See the Speakers Bureau information on the website!

In August, our Associate Grand Matron Michelle and Associate Grand Patron Bill will begin sharing their plans at the annual State District Association meeting. Those who are eligible to attend, please do so and enjoy this special day!

In friendship and service,

Worthy Grand Matron

Charity and Service

Throughout the year, the Charities Directors will help the WGM and WGP sow their seeds and at the Charities Egg-stravaganza it will be time to harvest them.

These computer systems will allow our elders at the OES Home to be engaged, active and to PARTICIPATE in Connection with Family and Friends, Entertainment (games, puzzles and read to name a few of the things it offers), Therapy and Fitness, Mental Stimulation and Spiritual Support.

Our goal is to raise a minimum of $25,000. This will allow for the purchase of four systems, one for each of the 4 new neighborhoods. The more money raised, the more options that can be added to the system and programs; allowing for more opportunities for our elders at the home.
