Subject: June Gregg

The article, below, is now on the Hillsboro Times Gazette website.  June was delightful.

Gregg honored for 80 years of Eastern Star service

Bainbridge resident June Gregg, left, was recently honored for 80 years of service to the Order of the Eastern Star.

Chillicothe Chapter #419 Order of the Eastern Star honored June R. Gregg on Thursday, April 9 for 80 years of service.

Gregg is no longer able to travel to Chillicothe for the regular meetings; thus, a special meeting was held at the Bainbridge Senior Center for a time of fellowship and a pin presentation. Gregg was presented her 80-year pin (converted to a necklace by Jodie Augustine) by Worthy Matron Eileen Hatfield, who noted that Gregg was initiated into the Bainbridge Chapter on April 10, 1935 and held office continuously from 1936 through 1978, including the office of secretary from 1948 through 1978. She again served as secretary in 1990 and 1991 and served as Grand Page to District 23 Deputy Grand Matron Mary Cottrill in 1991.

Gregg served as Associate Conductress in 1936 and 1946, Conductress 1937-38, Worthy Matron 1939-1940, Adah 1941 and 1979, Esther 1941, Chaplain 1943, and Warder 1944, 1945, 1947 and 1948.  The Bainbridge Chapter 183 merged with Chillicothe Chapter 419 in 1992. Gregg received her 75-year pin on May 12, 2010, at which time her brother, Roy Gregg Sr., and nephew, Roy (Allen) Gregg Jr., received their 25-year pins.

Gregg was inactive in Ohio for 10 years while living in Florida, where she attended the Friendship Chapter in Lutz, Fla. and the Mystic Chapter in Tampa, Fla.  Only in the last year has Gregg, who will turn 104 on June 2, not been able to get in the Temple in Chillicothe. She remains active in the Fall Festival of Leaves and worked all three days of the festival in 2014. She is also an active member of the Bainbridge Senior Center.

Approximately 25 to 30 friends and family members were in attendance.

“Thank you so much for this honor. I deeply appreciate you coming this afternoon to be a part of this service,” Gregg said during the ceremony. “I would like to thank especially Chillicothe Chapter 419 OES for my recent life membership and today’s service planned by Worthy Matron Eileen Hatfield and to former Bainbridge Chapter 183, who made it possible for me to be a Past Matron. Also, being their secretary for 37 years taught me much about crossed pens responsibility; also to Bainbridge Lodge 196 F&AM for their support and care and concern. Thank you all very much. I would like to leave you with two thoughts: In all thy ways, acknowledge Him and He will direct they paths. Also, please love one another. Thanks so much.”
